Nick Mag

This is a page of illustrations I did for Nickelodeon magazine. It had a contest in the back of the magazine for kids to create their own fantasy characters and submit them to the magazine. I also had a small illustration on that page as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind crazy things the kids come up with. I'm pretty sure they will be printed in an upcoming issue...The 3 winners get a video game system of their choice.

I do a lot of illustrations for this magazine, but this was my first cover. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It's drawn with a brush and ink and colored in photoshop

unused cover

They liked my first cover, so a couple of months later, they let me do another one. I was pretty disappointed when the company decided not to use it in the end. After I was paid, they decided it clashed with the article inside. This is what it would've looked like. It's drawn with brush and ink and colored in photoshop. The cakes in the background were done with my Wacom tablet. My friend, Cayce, who is the editor of the magazine, put the text on both of these.

Johnny Merrick

This is a drawing I did a few months ago of John Merrick the elephant man as a small child. I was going to do an entire series of side show freaks as children, but he was the only one I finished...maybe someday I'll get back to work on these. It's an ink and brush drawing, colored in photoshop.

Here's a bunch of stuff drawn with my Wacom tablet in photoshop. I'm having a lot of fun learning to use it.

Michael Lee Ford

This is a gag comic I recieved through the mail today from a great artist named Michael Lee Ford! He makes sculptures out of mulched paper. You'll have to go to his website for more details and to look at his art. I sent him a Monkeyboy comic over a year ago and he finally sent me a one page hand-written letter and this cool comic. His sculptures have been featured in Juxtapoz Magazine. I think they're really neat. www.artofmichaelleeford.com

Welcome to Monkeyboy!

I'll post a new page every Tuesday. I have a few full Monkeyboy comics up to hold you over until the next installment. Monkeyboy #1, Monkeyboy #2, Monkeyboy: Death Hauler, and Savage Dragonboy. And I'll be using the blog for posting sketches and all kinds of other goofy stuff. I'd love to hear what you all think, so post on the boards or leave comments here and let me know!

Here's the first weeks page.
